Waiting Tables [mission] Empty
PostSubject: Waiting Tables [mission]   Waiting Tables [mission] Icon_minitimeFri Dec 14, 2012 3:37 am

I was standing against the back wall of a restaurant in the village called the 'Daily Grind Cafe', a place that apparently specialized in exotic coffees and pastry treats rather than real food. The kind of people that ate here all wore turtle neck sweaters and thick black rimmed glasses that they apparently didn't need to see since they only wore them long enough to sit down and then proceed to order from the poorly written menu in a mixture of print and sloppy cursive with weird little sketches down the sides. When I first arrived I was offered a cup of what they served and tried it but almost as soon as the owner looked away I spit it out the window. The taste of stuff here was so weird that I just couldn't understand how anyone could stand it but then again from what everyone keeps telling me about this type of crowd they eat food that tastes like the garbage they pulled their clothes out of so it was making a little more sense. My break was over and I walked back out into the thick of everything to start taking more orders, I had been here since this morning and it was already getting to the late afternoon, at least after another order or two I would be free to leave but I knew that these people would order some weird grass coffee again which took more time to figure out than it did to actually make.

As I walked up the the counter the young man, or possibly woman as it was hard to tell with these people, was impatiently tapping their fingers on the counter as if it would make me move any faster. The previous barista, as servers are apparently called here, had only left seconds ago and already this entitled jerk was acting as though he had been left alone for hours. I just shook off his rude comments as I listened to his order and sure enough he wanted a shot of some sort of wheat grass in his coffee which made no sense but I wrote it down and called it out to the person mixing the drinks. I took the guys money and he went to go wait for his coffee while the next one came up. Again the gender was a bit confusing but it seemed to lean a bit more towards female from her voice but she was no less rude than the one before her. This time ordering a different kind of drink that seemed a little bit more tolerable which was again written down and called out. This process repeated a few more times until I had a full set of orders and went to go pick up the drinks as the next server walked up to the counter to get the same finger tapping treatment I had gotten. I sighed as I took the tray of cups and rested it on my shoulder, this was definitely not a place I'd be coming back to later.

With the half dozen drinks on my shoulder I looked at the receipts I tacked onto the side and started looking around for the people who had ordered them. Oddly enough even though every one of the drinks was coffee, only one of them was warm while the others were freezing cold. Keeping this in mind I tracked down the person who ordered the hot coffee first and gave them their drink before moving on, before I could get away he tried singing some sort of weird song that lasted all of fifteen seconds which was absolutely terrible and would have still been so if he could sing a single note in tune. This resulted in me sighing and him slanting his eyes before throwing his hand up and calling me a poser or something, I just shrugged and walked off to deliver the rest of my orders. I walked around for the next five minutes trying to determine who was who as between the terrible smells and dirty clothes everyone seemed to blend together as one giant hipster but eventually I figured it out and was able to get the last of my hours turned in. The owner was apparently impressed with my performance as most other genin that came in to help ether got into a fight with a rude customer or couldnt stand the smell and left and asked if I would be able to help out here again. I chuckled a bit and said maybe, as I turned around while he walked off I mouthed 'fuck no' silently and grabbed my scarf from the rack at the door. It smelled like the room as did all of my clothes which meant I would have to wash them several times to make sure I got it all off when I got home. But I had at least finished the job and for that I would be paid and that's what mattered right now.
